Just when you feel like you’ve lost all motivation and you’ll never make it to the finish line

That’s where I come in.

“You’ve probably never met a writer as terrible as I am.”

Believe it or not, I hear this statement all the time. And it absolutely breaks my heart.

You’ve worked too hard to get where you are to let your inner critic win.

My mission is to help you see yourself the way that I see you:
As the brilliant writer and human being that you are.

“I highly recommend that you book a session - or many with Dra. Chang, especially if you want to feel seen, heard, and validated.”

- Dr. Paty A.

“I don’t think I would ever have gotten as far in my dissertation if it weren’t for Dra. Chang. She’s an amazing educator, and an even better friend and confidant.”

- Dr. Anita S.

My Story

When I was five, I immigrated to the US with my family from my beloved Guatemala.

Growing up, my parents were fierce advocates of the value of education, and that led to my own love for education, books, and writing, and eventually my life's work of advancing social justice issues.

I began my scholarly career at UC Berkeley, where I obtained my bachelor’s degree in English Literature. From there, I earned my master’s degree at Stanford University in secondary education. Several years later, I went on to earn my doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction at UT Austin with a programmatic focus on Cultural Studies in Education - all while holding down a full-time position in student affairs! After holding several administrative roles, I entered professorial life.

My Why

Faculty life, especially for women of color like me, is complicated at best and downright violent at its worst.

Shortly after earning tenure at Loyola University, I concluded that it was time for my next chapter. My next few career moves led me to eventually embark on my entrepreneurial journey - serving clients as a developmental and technical editor.

At first I thought it would just be about helping writers become better writers. Now, after supporting so many amazing academics, I am motivated by my greater mission: to empower academics to (re)define their personal, professional, and scholarly narratives through compassionate, confidential, and customized writing and holistic support.

My Approach

What sets me apart from other editors and academic guides is the depth, breadth, and rigor of my scholarly identity, my teaching expertise, and my personal life.

My intersectional experiences as an immigrant child, academically-obsessed student, dissertation adviser, tenured professor and scholar, and a faculty development expert are central to my compassionate and mindful approach to supporting my clients.

Most importantly, I know firsthand what it's like to be a first-generation doctoral student, a female faculty of color, and a mom.

I’m not just here as your editor, but also your biggest fan.

A PUBLICATION RECORD and ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS YOU CAN TRUST

As a published author and formerly tenured professor, you can trust that I have the credentials to fully support you in your journey.

My CV includes 30 years as an educator, 10 of which I spent as a tenure-track professor at The University of Wyoming and Loyola University. My work in furthering social justice via the field of education brings me enormous pride. I’ve published over two dozen academic articles and two academic books: The Struggles of Identity, Education, and Agency in the Lives of Undocumented Students: The Burden of Hyperdocumentation, and The Meaning of Multiraciality: A Racially Queer Exploration of Multiracial College Students’ Identity Production.

You won’t need to explain your social justice work to me. I get it. I’ve studied it, I’ve written about it, and I’ve lived it.

“Dra Chang provided me with the opportunity to think through my ideas and work through my ideas with her - and her resources as an editor, as a scholar, as a mentor, and as an advocate were instrumental in helping my book become a reality.”

- Dr. Jessica S.
